Visa Requirements

International visitors to Canada (not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents) must carry a valid passport and visa, if required.  Citizens from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Mexico, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia and others do not require a visa to enter Canada.  Visit Citizenship and Immigration Canada at www.cic.gc.ca for a complete listing.

Currency
The currency is the Canadian dollar (CAD $).  It is divided into 100 units (cents).  Most major credit cards are widely accepted in Canada and automated banking machines can be found in most regional centres.  For current conversion rates visit www.xe.com.

Tipping and Taxes

Various sales taxes throughout Canada can be as high as 15%, although the GST (goods and service tax) can be refunded upon leaving the country with proper documentation.  Tipping is much the same as in the United States with 15 to 20% as an acceptable gratuity.

Telecommunications

Canada is well provided with the latest telecommunication services and visitors can expect to find access to fax and internet services in airports, hotels and internet cafes.  Personal cell phones will work provided one has international roaming and appropriate phone capabilities.
