“Be more interested in the needs of others than your own.”
Our family relocated to Costa Mesa after six years of pastoring at a church in Marin County. I was struggling with missing my church family and ministry. My eldest son, Karl, started his first year in the school of ministry and my two younger sons decided to return to a private Christian school after seven years of homeschooling. I remember feeling displaced, as if I did not fit in anywhere. I had just turned 40 and wondered, now what? It was such a weird feeling not schooling my boys anymore and not being busy with ministry. September came around and we headed up to teach at a family camp in the mountains. It was there I met my ENVP Mariam Bell and Ed Bell. Mariam mentioned Arbonne to me twice; the first time while taking her Arbonne vitamins and the second time by sharing one evening how her family had been blessed with Arbonne. How her husband had come home from corporate America and how he was also doing the business. I listened with interest and was very happy for her, but did not even consider getting involved in the business. After all, I was a pastor’s wife!
A few weeks later, I met another woman, Kris Fray, who had attended the family camp. I knew she had been looking for a part-time job and asked if she had found anything yet. She enthusiastically shared the Arbonne opportunity with me and encouraged me to take home a gold sample bag and try the product. This was my third exposure to Arbonne and I was beginning to get interested. I could not stop thinking about it. What if it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity? I did not want to miss it. Due to our move, we had incurred some debt and I was looking for a well-paying, part-time job to supplement our income. Before we became involved in full-time ministry, I had been a very successful hairdresser and owned my own salons in Ireland. I did not want to return to that kind of work. I wanted to have the freedom to work when and where I wanted, with the possibility of earning unlimited income. The idea of time leveraging and residual income seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. This business offers you the opportunity to grow personally, in ways you never thought possible. The biggest obstacle you will face in this business is yourself. Your Why should propel you to get over yourself and realize it is in giving you receive. Be more interested in the needs of others than in your own. Be real, loving and compassionate and people will trust you to lead them to success.
I thank God for blessing my life with amazing people and opportunities. To my best friend and the love of my life — my hubby, John Henry: Thank you so much for your constant support, encouragement, prayers, patience and belief I could do it. You showed your selflessness when I was building the business by helping at home, especially with those wonderful late night dinners waiting in the oven for me. I love you so much. To my three wonderful boys, Karl, Erik and Gary: You are the greatest gifts in my life. Thanks for all your support and patience when I was on the phone a lot. Thanks also for keeping me abreast of my changing WebStats and informing me when I needed to kick my momentum into gear. And thanks for suggesting people you thought would be blessed by the gift of Arbonne. To my mum, Carmel Potter: You may be 6,000 miles away in Ireland but you are always close to my heart. Thank you for being interested in my new business and encouraging me over the phone. I know everything I am today is because of the love you poured into me. You have always faithfully modeled what a loving woman should be. I am so blessed and grateful you are my mum.
To my Italian-Irish sister, good friend and coach, ENVP Mariam Bell: You encouraged and kicked me when I needed it. I am so thankful you came to our family camp and dared to share your Arbonne story with a pastor’s wife, even when she did not look remotely interested. I am so blessed to have you in my life, you looney tune! To NVP Ed Bell: You were always “Ed there,” available to answer all my questions and encourage me in your own sweet way. I am so blessed to call you friend.
To my Irish friend, Mary Diepetro: Thank you for your trust, friendship and encouragement. You constantly remind me of my rich heritage and indulge me in Irish idioms and humor only you and I can appreciate. I thank God for bringing you into my life. To my first Scottish daughter, RVP Kathleen Pedick: Thanks for listening to this crazy Irish girl and taking a leap of faith with me. It has been a joy growing this business with you and watching our kids grow up to lead their own teams. We have had a lot of fun and laughs along the way. To my second daughter, EAM Heather Powers: Thanks for believing in me, signing up and ordering without ever seeing or trying the product. You are a woman of faith and will be an RVP soon. Just keep focused and consistent.
To RVP Janelle Sabolick: You are amazing! You jumped in, believed everything I said and ran with it. You kept your eyes on the goal, asked the right questions, kept your head down and pressed on, no matter what obstacles came your way. You have worked hard and now you are reaping the rewards. Enjoy your car. To RVP-in-qualification Laura Jackson: Thank you for all you do in your own quiet way. Your sweet and kind disposition is such a blessing to us all. To Lisa Dimond: I am so glad you decided to do Arbonne. You are kind, cheerful, helpful, encouraging and a joy to be with. Nothing is ever too much for you. What a blessing you are.
