“Find your passion and become the person you were meant to be.”
When our friends, ENVP Susan Kilborn and NVP Kay Draelos, approached us about being a part of Arbonne, our first response was a polite, “No, thank you.” I was a stay-at-home mom with two school-aged children and a lot of volunteer commitments. My husband, Kirk, had been in medical sales for 19 years and was very successful. Our income was great, however, our expenses were growing rapidly. After watching Kay and Susan succeed in business, we decided to take a closer look at Arbonne. We attended a meeting in June 2004 and were astounded at the potential Arbonne presented. Kirk immediately saw that this was a viable business. I, on the other hand, was still unsure. We prayed about it and then decided to jump in with both feet, thinking what did we have to lose? Besides, earning even a few extra dollars each month would help us out tremendously.
Staying at home with the children for the past 10 years had been very rewarding for me. Now that our kids were in school, I needed something more in my life. I needed something that could challenge me, without taking me away from my children.
We began our journey in July 2004. At our first Presentation, we signed up our first business builder, EAM Teri West. We were so excited that Teri had joined our team. As we continued to build our business, we had quick success and promoted to Area Managers within several months. Then, life threw us all a curve ball. In December 2004, I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma and the outlook was dismal. In that same month, Teri's father passed away and all of our lives were turned upside down. In spite of these events, we went into first step qualification for Region in January 2005. Unfortunately, we did not have the team to complete qualification. We decided to step back, take a break and put our lives back together.
In June 2005, we started up again. This time around our team was not the same team we had in January. In this rebuilding process, we had little success. After struggling for a few months, we approached our sponsor, NVP Kay Draelos, for help. That meeting marked a turning point in our business. Kay politely pointed out that we were just “playing Arbonne” and needed passion to energize our business. At first, we were confused because we felt we had worked very hard. What we lacked was a belief in ourselves and a belief that we could be successful in Arbonne. Living in Edmond, Oklahoma, (the unofficial Arbonne mecca), we were surrounded by success. It was frustrating not to be a part of this evident success.
Taking Kay’s advice, we sought to build our passion, self-confidence and belief in Arbonne. The journey to personal growth proved to be one of our most rewarding experiences with Arbonne. We are better, stronger and more passionate about every aspect of our lives. What we learned is that everyone has obstacles in life. How one reacts to those obstacles determines their success or failure. If you take a step of faith and make changes in your life, you will achieve great things.
We want to thank God for blessing us on our journey. We can only be successful through His will. All the trials and triumphs have made us who we are today. We could never have imagined our future looking so bright before Arbonne.
No one can achieve the level of RVP without a great team. Words cannot express our gratitude to our friend and sponsor, NVP Kay Draelos. Kay, your leadership, support and friendship have been invaluable to both of us. You saw our potential long before we did. Thank you for your persistence and belief in us.
