I did not want to become an Arbonne Consultant because, like a lot of people, I have experienced my share of failure in my efforts to build a successful business in direct sales. When the Arbonne opportunity was presented to me by Donna Johnson, I expressed no interest or enthusiasm, all because of the old failure tape in your head that says “It will not work,” “You cannot do it,” “You are not glamorous enough,” “You do not have enough education,” “This industry is saturated,” “If it did not work the first time, it will not work now,” started playing in my mind. I was satisfied with the skin care products I was using, and quite honestly, I was experiencing a very challenging time in my personal life. I just could not see how Arbonne could offer me anything except the possibility of future failure. Since we all have a self-defense mechanism that says, “Do not try, then you will not be disappointed,” I dug my feet in and resisted when this opportunity came along.
When my sister, Rita Davenport spoke for Arbonne, she started using the products. She could not say enough about how impressed she was with the Arbonne people, the products and the Arbonne opportunity. So, needless to say, when I said no to Donna Johnson and the vision she was trying to share with me, my sister convinced me to change my mind. Rita convinced me that the only time you really ever fail is when you do not try. After all was said and done, I reluctantly joined Arbonne with no confidence, little knowledge and overwhelming family responsibilities. If you know my sister Rita, you know she is one of the most persistent and determined individuals God ever made. She was also my biggest cheerleader. When I began using the products, the results were so immediate and dramatic that people began asking me what was different about my skin. In the beginning, they had to drag it out of me that I was using Arbonne. Later, when I saw how good my skin looked and felt, they could hardly get me to shut up!
Since Rita was one of my best Clients, I suggested that if this opportunity was as great as she believed, then she should join Arbonne too! She did, and the rest is Arbonne history! Rita promoted to RVP within six months, was number-one in the Parade of Champions, and won the coveted President’s Award. Now, Rita is the President of Arbonne International! I am reminded that every minnow knows a whale, and every whale knows a minnow!
If you are reading this right now, you are probably thinking, “Sure it was easy for her,” but let me be the first to tell you that although this is a simple business, getting to the top is never easy. One of the first things I tell newly sponsored Consultants is that this is not a business for “sissies.” I remember back when family demands and needs were so great that I lost my Area, then my sister reminded me again that it is not your setbacks, it is your comebacks that count. I also remember her telling me that Arbonne would be there for me when I was ready to continue my career. In Arbonne there is no glass ceiling, there is no prejudice against race, religion, age or lack of education. I do not know of a better opportunity to allow someone to be their very best and succeed to the extent that they help others grow.
No one becomes an Executive National Vice President in Arbonne unless they have had their share of disappointment, rejection and failure. But the ups far outweigh the downs. I have heard it said that if you do something long enough you are bound to get good at it. My confidence and faith in this company grows stronger every day and in every way because I remind myself that through Arbonne I can get better, and better, and better! There will be times when you try and fail, but I focus on the times when I try and succeed. Never, ever give up on yourself and this opportunity.
Before joining Arbonne, I was laid off from my job due to downsizing. At the time I was making $97 a week. How grateful I am for that pink slip! Ask yourself what nudge you need to get you on your right track. Because the world is round, sometimes when you think you are at the end of your world you are really at the beginning, and sometimes when you close a door to one opportunity you actually open a window that offers you the entire world.
My husband, Lucion, my two daughters, Peggy and Patty, my two grandchildren, Dale and Ashley and my great granddaughter, Savannah, all enjoy the many rewards and benefits Arbonne offers. We love spending time on our beautiful houseboat, traveling to exotic places, driving my Mercedes-Benz and experiencing the financial peace Arbonne has the potential of providing.
