“Envision your desires and work to make them happen.”
When my best friend and sponsor, NVP Gina McMurry, presented me with the idea of building an Arbonne business my answer was a resounding no. I did not say that because I was a stranger to entrepreneurial endeavors, but because I had a very misinformed perception of what this business entailed. Yet, when Gina told me she was moving forward with this business, I had to stop and take a look. After all, she was someone I highly respected and admired for her brilliance, and she saw something special in Arbonne. Thank goodness for the second look because Arbonne has been one of the greatest gifts I have received.
At the time I launched my business, I was home with my infant son. Just before his birth, I had ended a six-year stint in pharmaceutical sales. While I was pregnant with my son, my husband encouraged me to stay home with our new addition. I was thrilled, but not for the reasons you might think. For six years as a pharmaceutical sales representative, I felt displaced. Most days, I was depressed and often found myself searching for something I could feel passionate about. Despite those feelings, it was difficult to leave the pharmaceutical industry, due to the impact it would have on our family’s income. I referred to that job as the “golden handcuffs.” The longer I stayed, the harder it was to leave, simply from a financial perspective. Finally, after six years, I could no longer justify doing something that left me feeling so empty.
It has been said that if you love what you do, you will never work another day in your life. I finally have a purposeful profession. I make a difference in people’s lives and work to help them achieve their goals and dreams. One of the greatest rewards of this business is giving others hope for the future, with a blueprint to achieve that vision. What could be greater than that?
However, this business has not been without frustrations or challenges. It has taken much determination, persistence and most of all, conviction. After launching my business, I quickly promoted to District Manager where I remained frustrated, for a year. I thought, “Why am I not succeeding up to my expectations?” After all, I was a successful pharmaceutical sales representative. I figured my past experiences yielded me expertise for this business. Boy, was I wrong. If I was going to succeed, I had to forget everything I thought I knew. I also had to reach out to my upline and follow the system. Plunging myself into self-development, I participated in every conference call available and listened to every self-help tape I could find. I worked diligently on my self-talk and vision. I began building my foundation with me, first. When I realized I had something to learn, I became teachable and my business began to soar.
If you have ever felt like quitting this business, do not! If you are considering this business, you are without a doubt looking in the right place. While the potential for financial rewards is awesome, there are even greater gifts you receive when building a business. I am not the same person I was two years ago. I am more confident, an inspired leader, more passionate and definitely happier. Most of all, I have been enriched by the most rewarding, true friendships. This is a unique opportunity that yields some of life’s greatest gifts. Stay the course, believe in yourself and watch the most beautiful vision unfold.
