Today matters. Why then, when I first stumbled in to Arbonne, did my today look like a long list of incomplete yesterdays or — even scarier — a longer list of who knows about tomorrow? When I was nine, even when I was twenty-nine, I never dreamed that my life would look the way it did. Funny though, my life with Todd resembled what most young marriages look like: Starter home, big mortgage, reliable vehicle for our growing family, both parents working to pay for it all and our boys, Connolly, 4 and Angus, 2 in full-time childcare. All of the dreams my husband and I started out with had somehow vanished. The saddest part was that our efforts to just maintain what we had were not working. In fact, they were backfiring. Something had to give. And, for my husband and I, it was our marriage.
I am a filmmaker and my husband, Todd, is a devoted dad and car lover. When we met, we promised each other that we would have our dreams. I would pursue a filmmaking career and Todd would build his ideal business. We were determined to find a way to create the bright future we believed was before us. Well, all I can say is, thank goodness for Arbonne.
When my neighbor, Dr. Gultaj Somani, invited me to her launch Presentation, I went, but only to be polite. Financially, Todd and I were barely scraping it together, and as a couple, we were in worse shape. Todd’s two jobs and my full-time work were exhausting our family. The last thing I needed was go to one of those events. But I am neighborly, so I went. When I arrived, I said to Gultaj, “I only have 15 minutes”. Luckily, that is all it took.
I quickly saw the big picture. With Arbonne, I could work around the needs of my family and my pay-cheque would reflect my effort. With products that are botanically based, environmentally friendly, socially conscious and made from the purest, safest, most beneficial ingredients, it all made sense. That night was my first of many exciting, sleepless nights as my heart and mind began to dream again. I could see that this business was the opportunity I needed to save my marriage and get our family back on track, and just maybe I could pick up my filmmaking career and run with it. I had no idea how right I was.
So I began. My road to Region was exhilarating and challenging. I promoted to District Manager in two months and then to Area Manager two months after that. I stayed there for the next 14 months. They say in Arbonne, that wherever you plateau is where you need to grow. This is when I learned that true are earned and discovered during the process of getting to where you want to go.
With Arbonne, you are in business for yourself, but not by yourself. I listened to my upline and kept my “feet moving” as our ENVP Linda Parker tells us to do. I stayed connected by going to all of the meetings and attending all of the trainings, even when our budget looked like we could not afford it. From my perspective, we could not afford not to.
I was in qualification for Region four times and wound up feeling discouraged. Gultaj told me the story of Gertrude Ederle, who in 1929 was the first woman to swim across the English Channel. It took her 14 hours and 31 minutes to complete the journey. Gultaj said to me, “Imagine if she had decided to abandon the swim because she could not see the shore.”
On New Year’s Eve 2006, our team pulled together and created the Tina Overbury Region.
How many times have you given up or quit something because it was easier than being in unfamiliar territory? Remember, today matters. Today you have a chance to determine your tomorrow. It’s up to you.
I must thank my beautiful team. You are my greatest inspiration and source of pride. Watching each of you practice being bold and living up to your potential is an exquisite honour.
To my Area Managers and dearest friends, Lenka Stolar and Sue Sands. Every day, I envision giving you the keys to your Mercedes-Benz and every day you amaze me with your commitment, generosity and willingness to learn. Thank you.
To my upline and sponsor, Dr. Gultaj Somani, who would have thought that in 15 minutes, you would give me the gift that would change my life. I have the family back that I love, the man I have always dreamt of and a future that is ours to enjoy. There are no words that can adequately express my gratitude. I love you as the friend you have become and the mentor you continue to be.
Thank you to ENVPs Dr. Tanis Gaitens and Marlene Telesford Gardham. You two are a miraculous pair. Between Tanis’ calming words and Marlene’s unshakeable faith in the journey, my course could only be one of success.
To ENVPs Linda Parker and Cecilia Stoll, I feel am blessed to be a part of your business. Your gift crossed the border and brightened my life. Thank you for your training, your vision and your loving spirit.
To everyone at Arbonne Canada — it is so wonderful to be supported by such a determined, selfless team of individuals. It’s a tribute to your dedication when those of us in the field can roll in late from an Arbonne party to discover that someone at Arbonne Canada is still checking e-mail! Thank you for your dedication to our success.
To Rita Davenport, and everyone at the US corporate home. Never have I felt as appreciated and taken care of as I do within your Arbonne family. Your inspiration and guidance continues to enrich all of us fortunate enough to be touched by you.
And lastly to my “home team,” Mr. Todd, Connolly and Angus, I love you. You are my everything.
