“Occupy your days with consistent massive activity geared toward building your business.”
For a year, I was living in an African village, teaching school, playing soccer and ministering to the children. My life was changed forever because of this amazing experience. It is funny how you can go to a foreign country and have expectations about all the great things you are going to do, but when I recap the year 2005, I realize the people in Africa taught me so much more than I taught them. One lesson I never fully grasped in America was instilled in me in a rural village. I had always been taught to give to those less fortunate rather than myself, but I always thought you had to have a lot in order to give it away. I was brought to tears in Africa, when people who literally had nothing would give me everything. It boggled my mind because here in America we have so much, but we tend to hold onto it. So, I embraced this concept and discovered how powerful it really is. The more love I gave those children, the more I got back. The more I gave financially to those in need, the more I received. Upon my return, I did a lot of soul searching and realized I was put here on this earth for a reason. I want to make a difference in the world. I want my life to count. I want to live with no regrets. I want to see lives changed here in America and around the world. To make this dream a reality, time and money would be essential.
While I was gone to Africa, my sister, ERVP Jenny O’Neil, sent many e-mails about Arbonne. I deleted them all because I had no concern about whether my skin was at its correct pH balance or not. I was in the midst of people who were dying daily because of starvation and disease. I finally asked her to take me off her e-mail loop because I was tired of deleting the messages.
It is funny how things come back around when the time is right. When I returned from Africa in December, there was evidence of the extreme desert heat on my face, visible through sun spots. My sister gave me the NutriMinC® RE9 anti-aging skin care system and immediately I saw a difference! At this point, a light went off and I had three things going for me. One, my sister, had done very well in Arbonne in a short amount of time and I trust her more than anyone. Two, I had a testimonial about the product and believed in it. And three, I had no plan B. I had no other job lined up that would create the situation I desired. So December 21, 2005, I signed up and dove in head first!
I knew what I wanted and where I was going. I shared my goals, dreams and visions for life and Arbonne with my sister. She mapped out a plan and said, “If you do this activity, you will be successful because it is all a numbers game. The more people you get in front of, the better the odds. If you fall short, I cannot guarantee you will get to where you want to be.” I am not one who likes to fall short in any fashion, so I took her plan as the minimum I was supposed to do. I got out there and was consistently in massive activity. I made the commitment and stretched way outside my comfort zone, all because my Why was huge. All along my journey there have been two steps forward and three steps back. Since my Why was bigger than any of those steps backward, I moved on. Most of the time, what I thought was a step back was really a personal development moment. I have never grown so much personally in such a short amount of time. The person I was at the moment I began with Arbonne is not the same person I am today or will be in years to come.
The coolest part about this Arbonne journey is everything I am learning now will be incorporated in Africa. The leadership skills, communication skills and stretching outside my comfort zone are all crucial components for my ministry in Africa.
Six months later, I find myself a 24-year-old, driving a Mercedes-Benz, making a potentially good income and blessed beyond measure. I am so thankful to be a part of this amazing company. I am thankful to be blessed with so much, with the sole purpose of being a blessing to others, in return. I am truly blessed to be a blessing!
