“Surround yourself with positive energy and positive people.”
In the spring of 2005, my daughter, Jennifer, came rushing through the door with a cute, little, skin care sample bag telling me, “Mom, you have to try this. These are botanically-based, Swiss-formulated skin care products … you will love them!” Little did I know what sampling skin care products would do, not only to my physical appearance, but to the overall complexion of my life.
I had moved to America from Sweden and had changed careers from dentistry to real estate in the process. Before my divorce, I also had the privilege of being a stay-at-home mom for years. Now, I found myself struggling to provide for my three kids as a single mom. With my son in college and my two daughters in high school just starting their college-planning phase, I felt the financial burden growing. I was very stressed to say the least. So, when my daughter received that bag from my eventual sponsor, ERVP Michael Tranchina, with information on the products, a company called Arbonne and a network marketing opportunity to start a home-based business, I was curious.
After trying the products, I fell in love with the results and needed no further convincing from Michael about their premium quality. However, at the time, I was not interested in the opportunity because I could not see myself trying to fit a business venture into my already full schedule. And to be honest, I did not see myself selling skin care. But, I became a Consultant anyway because I wanted to try other Arbonne products at a discount. Like most Consultants starting out, I talked to my friends about Arbonne and even spoke about the business; but I really did not get the whole picture, yet.
In dental school, you learn how to take care of teeth before you start your practice; but in life, there is absolutely no instruction on how to manage money, or have your money work for you before you start making it. With books suggested by Michael, I read about financial freedom and time freedom, and realized I had neither of them. When I got back from Europe that autumn, I made a decision to make this Arbonne venture work.
My first business builder, AM Debi Franklin, had come on board right before the summer. Then, my friend, now EAM Maggie Bernal, joined my business and immediately contributed her positive energy to our efforts. I was actually building a team, though was uncertain where to go from there. I must admit I lost my way many times wondering about my ability to successfully work this business. But as President Rita Davenport says, “Enjoy the journey because it is not about the destination, but the ride.” When I really committed to pursuing this venture no matter what, my business started to grow. I went to all the meetings I possibly could in leadership-rich Florida. NVP Lindy Rome’s words kept me true to this routine. She says, “If you are down, then you need the positive energies from the meeting; if you are up and happy, the meeting needs you.”
If you want this business to work, you have to be persistent and never give up. When I struggled with the negativity from people who were close to me, I stayed strong, did not listen to the dreamstealers and surrounded myself with positive energy and people. I also worked my business every day, took advantage of the Arbonne Learn & Burn™ recordings, logged on to Arbonne University and attended the National Trainings, so I could learn from everyone — upline, downline or crossline leaders. The resources were all around me and I relied on them to build my belief in myself and direct my efforts. Hence, I am writing my Eye on Arbonne story today.
To President Rita Davenport: You are amazing and just as funny as everyone has been telling me. To Chairman & CEO Bob Henry: Although your accomplishments include “Entrepreneur of the Year,” you are still so down to earth. To Sr. VP of Product Development & Field Events, Candace Keefe: I love your Arbonne Learn & Burn™ recordings. To the Arbonne Home Office staff: You make it all happen.
To ERVP Mike Tranchina: Thanks for bringing Arbonne into my life, and for listening and believing in me. I could not have a better upline. To ERVP Linda Gaddy: Thanks for your story and your advice to “work this business into the nooks and crannies of your life.” You are such an inspiration. To NVP Lindy Rome: Your advice to work more on yourself than your business has been a huge inspiration. To ENVPs, Susan Hutton and Shannon Johnson: You make this business real. You both opened my eyes to the opportunity by being so down to earth and sharing stories with a big heart. To NVP Lisa McDulen: Thanks for being such an inspiration at the “Opportunity” Presentations. If you were scared talking in front of people, it sure did not look it. I appreciate the many other VPs in Florida, who have been huge inspirations to me and my team.
This is a team business and we cannot do it on our own. I want to thank my wonderful team. I love you all. To AM Debi Franklin: You are on your way to the Mercedes-Benz and you deserve it because you have the biggest heart. Thank you for joining me on this trip. To EAM Maggie Bernal: You will go to the top with the biggest smile of all. Thank you for inspiring us all. To EAM Maria Lahlou: A call from you makes my day. You are one of the most positive people I know. To AM John James: You came, you saw, you did and you promoted to AM in three months. What a fireball. Your Why to help people is so noble. I am honored to have you on my team.
To all my DMs, Vicky Burton, Kathy Finney, Janet Ross, Ellie Aquilinia, Carrie Brogna, Wendy Bernal, Jonathan Escamilla, Marcella Bernal, Diane Capella, Toni Fitch, Misch Ertel, Jennifer Sensenbaugh, Adam Hise and Kara Ceccini: You are all on your way to the top and we will get there together. Thank you all for being who you are and never giving up. We are working toward freedom and the ability to help others in so many respects.
To all my new Consultants: We stumbled on this golden opportunity. Keep working, be persistent and positive, and dream big. To all of our Clients: You are the lifeblood of our businesses. I am so grateful for your loyalty to the Arbonne products.
To my kids, Jonathan, Jennifer and Linnea: You are my Why and I will love you forever. To my mom and dad in Sweden: Thank you for always believing in me. To my sisters: I cannot wait for Arbonne to come to Sweden so we can work the business together. To Lou and Pete: With your giving hearts, you are such a big part of my life. I love you both.
Finally, if you are reading my Eye on Arbonne success story and wondering if this business is for you, ask yourself again, and perhaps you will realize that you already have what it takes to be successful at an Arbonne business.
