My name is Karen Lane-Groen, and I am an Independent Arbonne consultant. I was first introduced to Arbonne when a friend of mine invited me to her business launch. At the time I was working part-time and a mom to 3 children ages 8, 6, and 3. I had never heard of Arbonne before and I was actually looking for a new skin care line, so was excited to try it out. I was also ready to find a new career, but wasn’t expecting to find that at a home skin care presentation. Here is a bit of the back story:
I am a former elementary classroom teacher, and a former Centre Director for a franchise of an international tutoring company. I went part-time when I returned to work after having my first child, but by the time I was expecting my third, things had changed dramatically at work making it very stressful even only working half time! I was exhausted and unhappy so I decided to become a full-time stay at home mom. That was in 2008, and when the market crashed at the end of the year, my husband’s new business in the trucking industry couldn’t survive it. So for a few years we had that strain of more month then money. It came to the point where I realized I couldn’t be the stay at home mom I wanted to be because that doesn’t help pay the bills, especially when you have 3 kids in activities eventually heading towards post secondary education. This was a tough realization for me, because I didn’t want to go back to teaching, and even if I did there were no jobs available where we lived. I didn’t want to go back to school because that just meant more debt and time, not to mention that I didn’t even know what I wanted to do! At the time I needed something with no stress and little responsibility, so I took a part time filing job 2 days a week. I didn’t mind the work and the flexibility was great but after a year and a half, I was bored stiff. Going to my friend’s home show came at exactly the right time.
At the home presentation, the Arbonne consultant helping my friend get her business started talking about how she was a stay at home mom with 4 children. How she got to take them to school in the morning, be home with them after school, stay heavily involved in extra curriculars and go on the class trips. How she was unemployable, because she didn’t want to be told when and how long to work. This was huge for me. Starting a business from home and having my life come first was exactly what I was looking for. My husband and I were already familiar with and had tried network marketing, but after hearing a little more about Arbonne, I jumped in and committed myself to creating something more for my family.
Now I work part-time around the lives of my children and family and get paid every month living my life how I want to! I am in business for myself but not by myself. I have so much fun working this business and being with the Arbonne community—they are an incredible, positive, encouraging group of people to work with. I get to pamper people, educate them on North American products versus the safety of Swiss formulation and offer a prestige level product at an affordable price. I have redirected my (and others) spending to myself, I get safer, ultra-premium products at wholesale, Arbonne pays me to buy them and I can write a portion of that off on my taxes. Then I teach others to do the same and help them have a little (or a lot of) breathing room at the end of the month. All this plus I am able to volunteer my time at my children’s school, my church, and my community.
There is no cap for where my income can go and THIS is exciting. When I started my home-based Arbonne business, I set a goal to be able to quit my job by summer of that year so I could be home with my kids, and I did that in 3 months! I replaced my part-time income with Arbonne, and I know it will continue to grow into something bigger while I work it around my life!
